The Lowdown on Celery Juice

The Lowdown on Celery Juice

Celery Juice has become all the rage as of late. While it doesn’t contain the beneficial fiber that the raw, unjuiced vegetable does, it certainly warrants all the buzz it’s receiving and can be very helpful as an addition to following clean nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices, regularly.

Important note for any newly learned regimen, it’s important to do your research and pay close attention to how your body is reacting. As well as how you feel after trying something for 1-2 weeks. Everyone is different, and some may benefit or feel worse with certain regimens.

Celery Juice can starve out mold, viruses and bad bacteria, detoxing through the gut. Flushing them out of the body can result in improved digestion, immune system, skin, and reduced inflammation.

Key Health Benefits of Celery Juice

1. ANTI-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES

Celery is known to contain flavonoids, which have shown to contain anti-inflammatory properties. Flavonoids are classified as a class of phytonutrients found in plants (naturally occurring chemicals that help plants resist bacteria or disease while they are growing)

2. LOWERS BLOOD PRESSURE

Celery contains a phytochemical that relaxes the tissues of thE artery walls, causing increased blood flow, which may lower blood pressure

3. MAY PROTECT AGAINST CHEMOTHERAPY EFFECTS

Consuming celery juice may have a positive effect on doxorubicin treatment (a chemotherapy drug used to treat cancer) and reduce damage from free radicals. Protecting against oxidative stress, which is caused by an imbalance of free radicals and antioxidants.

4. DECREASE IN OXIDATIVE STRESS

A study found that the flavonoid extracted from Celery may minimize oxidative stress. Oxidative stress is when oxygen free radicals attack biological molecules such as proteins, lipids and DNA.

Oxidation happens when

Our cells use glucose to make energy

The immune system is fighting off bacteria, creating inflammation

Our bodies detoxify pesticides and/or pollutants

5. REDUCE BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS

You’ll need

1/2 a celery bunch, washed and roughly chopped

Water

Blender

Strainer or cheese cloth

Medium sized bowl

1. Clean the celery, chop, and add to blender.

2. Add in enough water to cover about 1/4 or 1/2 of your celery.

3. Blend for 15-20 seconds.

4. Pour your blended celery into strainer, into bowl. (Use a spoon to push any juice left in the pulp.

5. Pour your juice from your bowl to serving glass, and sip right away.

Notes: I drink my glass of celery juice, first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach. I like to wash, chop and store at least 2-3 celery bunches in a reusable storage bag in fridge, for convenient prep in the mornings.
